Barrow's Goldeneye

One of my favourite winter ducks is the male Barrow's Goldeneye. When the light is right, as here,
one can catch the lovey purple iridescence of his head. The female of the species
isn't quite that pretty. These were taken from the beach at the bottom of Penticton
St, and the last photo shows 3 males and 4 females on shore, taking a sip of
water from the little freshet there.

  1. There must be more food down by the ocean. We see very few birds right now. A female Merganser did swim by the other day and an eagle was feeding along a log boom nearby, and then there's our resident pair of ravens. My Wrens have disappeared for the time being. - Margy
