Baldie

Always nice to run into one of the locals when you're out and about.

Bald Eagle

With the horrendous weather lately I'm having to dig into the archives, so here's one of
my favourite Bald Eagle photos. A classic pose on the rocks of the South Harbour breakwater.

Old Friend

This Eagle is getting to be an old friend, we seem to meet regularly on the same
branch of the same tree. And like many an old friend ...

...sometimes you've had enough of each other, and it's time to head to the next tree.

Here's Looking At You

Checking me out, but it's seen me several times before, so there's nothing new here.
(And by the look of that white-ish stain it has the same seagull problem
my coats occasionally get!)

Eagle Dinner

At the north end of the North Harbour Sunday afternoon when I spotted an eagle leave its tree and head out
over the water. It came back with what looks to be a young otter, and perched on the sign at the entrance
to the harbour, where it proceeded to tear off fur and take a few mouthfuls.

It didn't perch long, and soon lifted off with its catch and headed to the trees further up-shore.

Technically, not the best photos I've ever taken, but interesting to see and document.

Another Eagle

After yesterday's Coast Guard photos I noted this large Eagle just a few yards further down the
breakwater, and I never pass up the chance of an Eagle photo. I only managed a few shots
before it was on it's way. Very big, so probably a female.

Young Baldie

A young Bald Eagle, from the colouring probably about 3-4 years old.
It posed for me on the rocks of the South Harbour breakwater, kindly waiting while
I walked down the ramp and to the end of # 8 float of the harbour.

At The Creek

We should soon see Chum Salmon at Willingdon Creek. Last year this bird was there
to greet them, a very young Bald Eagle.

Eye-To-Eye

Our local eagles have left the area, gone north to chase the salmon runs,
and won't be back till early October at the soonest. But that doesn't stop me from
posting an eagle photo taken in May. A near eye level shot like this only happens when you
catch an eagle perched atop a sailboat mast in the north harbour on a day with a
very, very low tide, and you're standing on the ferry walkway.
