Saturday Sailing

The local yacht club kicked off their spring racing season yesterday, with a keelboat

race happening most Saturdays into June. They had a nice breeze for sailing, but

it was still none to warm out on the water.

Morning Fog

A bit of patchy morning fog on Malaspina Strait yesterday.

The Gwendoline

While there were a number of sailboats out Sunday for the Algerine Race

by far the best looking  boat on the water wasn't part of the race. This is the

Gwendoline, and while not in the race, her skipper did pause for a look at the action.

They'd Rather Be ...

Yesterday the local yacht club held their annual Algerine Race to Comox, but as you can note by the flat

water, there wasn't any wind to speak of, and there was more motoring than sailing.

Saturday Keelboat Race

The Powell River Yacht Club's Fall Keelboat Race Season is currently ongoing, every

Saturday morning at 10am, weather permitting. Though that does not mean the sun

must be shining, aptly demonstrated by this photo from last October.

The Westview wharf is a great vantage point to watch from,

or take photos from.

Furling His Jib

The skipper of the Scorpius furled his sail before heading in to

the South Harbour to take on fuel. And he didn't have to leave his cockpit.

Raising The Spinnaker

Raising the spinnaker sail, for what was, I think, the first Saturday of the Yacht Club's fall Keel Boat Race season.
The Seance was one of 6 sailboats on the water, all becalmed, waiting for the wind.

The Frayja

The Frayja - tying the fenders on while swinging her about,

into the wind, and preparing to dock. At #11 float of the South Harbour.

She is a very nice wooden schooner, cedar on a white oak frame. The Frayja was designed
by Bill Garden, well known in the boat world, with over 1000 boat designs to his
name. She was built in Coombs, in 1975. The current owners have the pleasure since 2009.
