Belted Kingfisher

Winter temperatures are normally mild enough in Powell River that our Kingfishers don't migrate
south, and we have the pleasure of their company year-round. A few, 2 pairs I think, make
their home around the North / South Harbour complex, which includes our ferry terminal.
And that is where I caught this fellow, 2 winters ago, on a ferry-approach fence post.

  1. It's a treat to see these guys and your closeup is especially nice.

  2. Last year I saw a kingfisher fly past the cabin very rapidly. It was like a blue blur, but I'm sure it was a kingfisher. - Margy
