Stage 2 of the BC Bike Race covers 51.8 kilometres, most of it single-track trail. 625 cyclists with 33 countries
represented. The photo above shows part of the long line-up waiting for the start.
Part of the second wave just out of the gate.
And the 3rd wave, leaving 3 minutes later.
Just over 2 hours and 13 minutes after the start the first riders passed the finish. #6, Tom Johnson
of the USA, came in 6th.

High-fives after the finish. #14, Severin Nowak of Switzerland, was 7th.
Entrants race in classes, determined by age. Garett Heitman of the USA, above, came in 15th,
but was 1st in his class, Solo Masters Men, meaning he's getting older.
#19, Brandon Firth of the USA, and like most of the early finishers, a professional rider, in his
case part of the Rocky Mountain Factory Team.
A good number of these riders return for this race year after year. I have photos of Quinn Moberg
above, each of the last 4 years. He came in 4th with a time of 2:17:06, better than his
2016 time of 2:22:11 when he placed 5th.

Wow, wonderful photos with excellent variety.
ReplyDeleteAnd the finishers look like they've barely broken a sweat!
ReplyDeleteWe delayed a day on the Island so we wouldn't get caught up in the ferry traffic. Looks like all went well here. - Margy
