Practicing

I think it safe to say that one does not expect to hear the sound of a lone French Horn
while passing through the park at Willingdon Beach, yet there it was.

On investigating, I must say I concur with our musician - when you have time off work
and need to practice on a gorgeous autumn day, what better place than the
Amphitheatre at Willingdon. Though he did say it was a little cold on the fingers.

Take Two For Take Five

Steve Carson, sax and clarinet
I featured these performers of the jazz quintet Take Five this past May, when they played
at the Market. They played there again Monday evening for the special holiday opening.
It should be noted the group won a gold medal at MusicFest Canada at Niagara Falls this past
spring. They were definitely worth a repeat listen, and as my camera goes where I go,
they get a repeat post here.

Hannah Schweitzer, keyboard and vocals
Cullen Buholzer, bass and bass guitar
Eli Carson, drums

Canada Day At The Market

Canada Day entertainment at the Farmer's Market was provided by the Blues Busters,
led by Ron Campbell (guitar, vocals), a group well-known locally.

Dennis Fox (bass, vocals), above, and Ted Durin (keys, sax, vocals), below.

The last member of the group, Neko (drums), was hiding behind his drum set at the
back and in the dark, no photo. Sorry Neko.

I've never ever said I was a blues fan, but these guys I enjoyed, they put on a good show.

PRISMA On The Beach

It's June, so it must be PRISMA month, and this year the dates are June 12 - 24.
And once again, Arthur Arnold and the Festival Orchestra will be at Willingdon Beach
for a free concert and festivities, on the 14th. So fair warning, Powell Riverites,
mark your calendar.

These photos of the string players of the Festival Orchestra, who sit at the front and get photographed,
are from the first PRISMA on the Beach, in 2015.

Take Five

Steve Carson, sax and clarinet
Take Five, a jazz quintet composed of some very talented Brooks Secondary School students,
performed at yesterday's Market.  Highly enjoyable by anyone who loves music,
and particularly any jazz aficionado.

Among The Usual Suspects

This weekend past was the first 2 days of the summer Farmer's Market, and the usual
suspects provided the entertainment, with Len Menard and his guitar among them.

The Clansman

The Clansman Pipe Band, sponsored by Branch 164 of the local Legion.
You see, and hear, them at many events and functions in our community,
and I have many photos over the years.

Practicing

This fellow and two of his mates were practicing a few songs while
catching the sun at Willingdon Beach.
They told me where they were playing that night, but at this stage in
my life, if I don't write things down, I forget. And I didn't.
Write it down that is.
