In recent news there was an article that said yesterday was the last day of business for the Landmark Hotel on

Vancouver's Robson St. The hotel has been a Vancouver icon for 44 years, but it's coming down to make way for 2 

condo towers. These are archive photos, from my last stay, almost 6 years ago to the day, and while

they weren't taken from the top - 42 stories - if I remember correctly this is the view

down and across Robson St from the 12th floor as the sun set on the city.

I definitely won't be able to afford one of those new condos when built, but then I haven't been able to
afford recent rates at the Landmark either.

Kin Beach Provincial Park

Kin Beach Provincial Park lies on the waterfront just to the south of the BC Ferries terminal at
Little River, and with quite some time on my hands Wednesday before the next boat home, I went
to the park between rain showers. The park features one of the most photographed dead trees to
be found on the coast, and as I don't make any claim to originality I'm adding my own photos.

Above is looking south-ish, below is up the beach in the other direction.

BC Parks description on their website says "This small park overlooks the Strait of Georgia

and offers scenic views of the mainland", but on a grey cloudy day the vista isn't much of a vista.

Butchart Gardens

This time last year I was at Butchart Gardens, near Victoria, with my camera. I had planned to do it again

this spring, but the best laid plans etc etc. So I've settled for going through some photos.
As it happens, with the cool, wet abysmal spring this year, 2018 might be a better bet.

The Glacier - A Closer View

Last month I posted a photo of the Comox Glacier as seen from our side of Georgia Strait. The folks in Courtenay get

a much closer view. This is the Glacier as seen from Marsden Road on the west side of Courtenay, in a photo from

the archives, dated 6 years ago this month. Magnificent.

Looking Back - Part 2

As noted yesterday, 5 years ago myself and my shooting buddy were at the dikes at Boundary Bay in Delta

on a photo shoot. The winter of 2011-12 was the last big irruption of Snowy Owls, and we were there to

take advantage. At one point I counted 22 Snowies in view, and I have photos of 11, of which these 2 shots top

my list. The above photo I printed 22"x17", and it too is on my "Wall of Fame". An experience not to be forgotten.

Looking Back - Part 1

Five years ago today and tomorrow my shooting buddy and I took a short trip south to the George C. Reifel

Migratory Bird Sanctuary and the dikes at Boundary Bay in Delta, to photograph birds. The trip was an

unqualified success. Today's photos are the top 2 taken at the bird sanctuary, one of the few places in BC

to find Sandhill Cranes. It was a real thrill to have a handful of these large birds saunter past on the trail, close

enough that one could touch them. I settled for the photos, both of which are hanging on my "Wall of Fame".

Tomorrow's post will feature the 2 best photos taken at the Boundary Bay dikes.

At Filberg Park - Comox - Take Two

Comox's Filberg Park is 9 acres of parkland just blocks from the downtown core.

Formerly a private residence, the park features Filberg Lodge, a 1930's

era heritage home that must have been a joy to live in.
I was there the tail end of September.

On a quick day-trip to Comox 3 weeks ago, with some time to spare, I made a little

side trip to Comox's Filberg Park, and caught this young thing

with its head in the begonias.
