BC Bike Race - Part 1

BC Bike Race held their Stage 2 race here on Saturday, with 625 cyclists and 120 support staff, plus family,
friends and locals all converging on Willingdon Beach. They arrived Friday, and several hundred tents
were set up to accommodate them, covering the best part of the park.

625 entrants means an awful lot of bicycles.

Pre-race maintenance - better here than on the course.

Making their way to the main staging area.

The melee before the race. Organized confusion.

Posing for the pre-race photo.
More tomorrow.

  1. I am in awe with what I am seeing. This is the first time I have seen what is going on in the background of one these events.

  2. This event looks like it's staged for photography, rather than bicyclists. We have an annual "Tour de Dung" (as in "Dungeness") race that's organized down the road from us. It seems very small now in comparison to yours.

  3. We saw the tent city as we came off the ferry. They looked really professional all of the same type. - Margy
