Prawn Season - II

The season officially opens today at noon, and there was a good bit of activity in the harbour

yesterday as the boats got ready to go out. This prawn fisherman was baiting and stowing

his 300 traps in preparation for today's opening.

Prawn Season

May and June are the months of the Spot Prawn fishery, and fresh prawns are usually available for

purchase right off the boat at the Westview wharf. These archive photos show the crew of the

Whiskey Point packing their catch into boxes for export to Japan, which is

where most of the local catch ends up.

There should be a feed of fresh prawns in my future fairly soon, something to look forward to.

Take Five

performed at yesterday's Market.  Highly enjoyable by anyone who loves music,
and particularly any jazz aficionado.

Another Rhodo

I did point out that I very much like rhododendrons.

This one I found in the Townsite on Thursday.

Lower Haslam Lake

The Haslam Lake slough, just above the weir. I took this photo 5 years ago today. I've

been back a good number of times since, and have pictures of this spot in every season.

Very nice and peaceful, I seldom meet another soul here.

Butchart Gardens

This time last year I was at Butchart Gardens, near Victoria, with my camera. I had planned to do it again

this spring, but the best laid plans etc etc. So I've settled for going through some photos.
As it happens, with the cool, wet abysmal spring this year, 2018 might be a better bet.

Among The Usual Suspects

This weekend past was the first 2 days of the summer Farmer's Market, and the usual

suspects provided the entertainment, with Len Menard and his guitar among them.
